1904-11-29 (130lbs) Battling Nelson w rtd 10 (20) Young Corbett, Woodward’s Pavilion, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Billy Roche. Billed for the world 130lbs title, it did not take long for both men to go to close quarters where they were soon throwing terrific punches from either hand. From round six onwards it was noticeable that Nelson’s blows were having more effect. That was borne out when Corbett almost tottered back to his corner at the end of the seventh. By now Nelson was well on top, handing out terrible punishment from both hands, and in the tenth Corbett, still standing, was rescued by his corner who threw up the sponge before rushing into the ring to tend to their stricken fighter.
