1906-12-17 (126lbs) Spike Robson w disq 4 (20) Johnny Summers, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Tom Scott. Billed for the English 126lbs title, right from the bell both men looked to finish early, and in the third round Robson (126) was dropped by a right to the jaw before fighting back hard to give Summers (125¾) all the trouble he could muster. In the fourth session Summers started that little bit better than his rival, soon having Robson in trouble before rights and lefts to the head sent the latter through the ropes. Then, instead of allowing Robson to right himself Summers continued to punch away at his almost defenceless opponent, the South Shields man being eventually forced to his knees where he was struck twice while he was still down. It was an unfortunate ending to what was an interesting battle, but following Summers’ actions the referee no alternative other than to disqualify him.
