1914-10-26 Sam Langford nd-l pts 10 Jeff Clark, Joplin, Missouri, USA. Contested over ten fast rounds, despite the ‘black’ title claimant scoring a second-round knockdown it was Clark’s fight from there on in. Staying out of range to avoid Langford’s heavy body attacks while using a solid jab, at the final bell the press were clearly in favour of the local man, justifiably nicknamed ‘The Joplin Ghost’

On 16 November, Jim Cameron retired during the sixth round of a scheduled eight against Langford at the Arctic Arena, San Diego, California, claiming a broken hand.
