1915-01-23 (160lbs) Jeff Smith w rtd 5 (20) Les Darcy, Baker’s Stadium, Sydney, Australia. Referee: Harold Baker. Defending the Australian version of the title, Smith (160) took on Darcy (155), a 19-year-old youngster who was seen as a good bet to become a world champion in the near future. For the opening four rounds, with not much action, halfway through the fifth, when Darcy complained to the referee that he had been struck low he was made to continue. At the end of the session Darcy dropped his shorts to show the crowd his dented protector before being retired by his seconds.
