1956-03-25 Raton Macias w co 10 (15) Leo Espinosa, City Bullring, Mexico City, Mexico - NBA. Referee: Cesar Arroyo. Making his sixth start since having his jaw broken in a non-title fight, and delighting a near 50,000 crowd, Macias (117¾) dominated the contest from the third round onwards. Although Espinosa (115¾) fought bravely, the left hooks to the liver gradually took all of the resistance out of him, it being a left hook followed by a right cross that despatched the challenger for the full count at 2.57 of the tenth round.
After this, Macias was allowed to take in nine non-title fights over the next 15 months without ever being called upon to make a defence. True, his management were trying to organise a match with Mario D'Agata, the European champion, but that came to nothing. He then put his belt on the line against another top-rated flyweight, Dommy Ursua, which was seen by all outside the NBA as a complete nonsense when he should have been fighting top men from the bantam class.
