1967-02-06 Muhammad Ali w pts 15 Ernie Terrell, The Astrodome, Houston, Texas, USA - WORLD. Referee: Harry Kessler. Scorecards: 148-138, 148-133, 148-137. In a battle to create one heavyweight champion, the WBC titleholder, Ali (212¼), had an easy time of it despite being unable to stop the WBA representative, Terrell (212½). Terrell won just two rounds, the second and fifth, but although always trying to match Ali with the jab on finding the latter a difficult target he was forced to concede ground. Cut over the left eye in round three and the right eye in the seventh, Terrell began to look a sorry sight, and during the last third of the contest he was barely able to see as both eyes were badly swollen. At that stage Ali was in total control, but instead of trying to knock Terrell out he seemed happy to continue berating him right through to the final bell.
Having deposed of Terrell, Zora Folley was next in line for Ali. With just seven losses in 85 contests, Folley was a skilful, hard-punching boxer who had beaten Roger Rischer, Nino Valdes, Wayne Bethea (twice), Pete Rademacher, Alex Miteff, Eddie Machen, Henry Cooper, Bob Cleroux (twice), Doug Jones, George Chuvalo, Oscar Bonavena, Bob Foster and a host of other top men in a career stretching back to 1953.
