1967-08-13 Horacio Accavallo w pts 15 Hiroyuki Ebihara, Luna Park Stadium, Buenos Aires, Argentina - WBA. Referee: Carlos Martinez Casas. Scorecards: 297-293, 298-293, 294-296. There was never a great deal between Accavallo (111½) and Ebihara (112), and with both men cut after the fifth round it was probably a fractured left hand suffered by the challenger that swung it. Surprisingly, neither man showed any great technique.

Having broken his left leg when falling down a flight of stairs in November, Accavallo was given time out to recover before being booked to defend against the number-two ranked Jose Severino in Buenos Aires on 5 October 1968. There had been talk of Accavallo meeting Chartchai Chionoi, the WBC champion, in order to unify the championship. Strangely uninterested, on the eve of the Severino contest Accavallo suddenly announced his retirement from boxing, giving his reasons as being worn out and financially secure.

Following that, Severino was matched against Ebihara to decide the vacant WBA title.
