1977-03-15 Eckhard Dagge drew 15 Maurice Hope, National Hall, Berlin, Germany - WBC. Referee: Dino Ambrosini. Scorecards: 145-144, 142-145, 145-145. For round after round Hope (152) landed with his southpaw jab, and it was not until the champion began to work out an effective way of dealing with it in the second half of the contest that he began to cut back the deficit. Although Dagge (153), badly marked around both eyes, hurt Hope on several occasions with heavy rights to the head he was unable to follow up and the latter was soon back in his jabbing routine. Towards the end, the German threw far more punches in a desperate bid to knock Hope out, but after failing to achieve that most expert bystanders felt that he did not even deserve the draw when it was announced.
