1983-08-13 Milton McCrory w pts 12 Colin Jones, Dunes Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Isaac Herrera. Scorecards: 115-114, 115-111, 113-114. Knocked down by a curving left uppercut towards the end of the first round of this vacant title contest was not what Jones (146½) expected, and it took him another couple of rounds to recover from it. The rest of the fight was spent with Jones chasing McCrory (147), it being only the latter’s last-round effort that gained him the title. Wobbling, retreating at speed and clutching for much of time, when the cards were read out it appeared that McCrory’s lightweight left and right counters had actually scored points. Interestingly, the day before the fight the WBC introduced a new ruling stating that in the event of the judges coming up with another draw they would be ordered to find a winner, a decision that possibly benefited McCrory more than Jones.
