1983-11-25 Michael Spinks w rsc 10 (15) Oscar Rivadeneyra, Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver, Canada - WBA/WBC. Referee: Joe Cortez. Despite being contested under WBA rules with the referee scoring, the WBC still recognised Spinks (173¾) as the world champion. Although badly cut over the left eye in the second round the elusive Rivadeneyra (173¼) managed to stay in the fight, slipping the jab and countering whenever the opportunity presented itself, and gave the ring-rusty Spinks a difficult time up until the finish. Spinks, who was cut over the left eye in the second, eventually caught up with Rivadeneyra in the tenth when dropping him with a right uppercut-left hook to the head. Although Rivadeneyra got back into the fray he was stopped at 1.42 of the session after he had been put down again by another right uppercut. Earlier, in the seventh, Rivadeneyra had suffered a cut over his right eye.
