1984-11-03 Jose Luis Ramirez w rsc 4 (12) Edwin Rosario, Hiram Bithorn Stadium, San Juan, Puerto Rico - WBC. Referee: Steve Crosson. Having been beaten by Rosario (135) when the pair contested the vacant title, this time round Ramirez (135) withstood a terrific shellacking in the opening two rounds to come back to win. The action started with a bang when Ramirez was put down early in the first and then forced to take a constant bombardment of blows from both hands for the remainder of the session before being dropped again by another big right to the head in the second. Somehow Ramirez remained upright prior to surprising Rosario with a big southpaw left in the third, which was followed by non-stop slugging that saw the former getting on top. The fourth was also sensational. With Ramirez continuing to take Rosario’s best blows to land his own, and with the latter staring blankly into the crowd after being punched to a standstill, at 2.52 the referee brought proceedings to a close.
