1987-10-29 Charles Williams w rtd 9 (15) Bobby Czyz, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Carlos Padilla. It looked likely to be an early night when Czyz (173¾) floored Williams (172¼) with a right to the head in the second round, and in the next session he sent the latter heavily into the ropes which brought about a standing ‘eight’ count. At the same time Czyz’s right eye was starting to close, which probably explained the reason for Williams’ spirited fight-back from the fourth round onwards. Having made up any lost ground and ahead on the cards Williams came out for the ninth, boxing coolly and sending in hurtful blows. Although Williams picked up a cut over right eye in that session it made no difference to the result, the champion being retired on his stool at the end of the session.
