1989-02-25 Julian Jackson w co 8 Francisco De Jesus, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Mills Lane. Even though the champion controlled the action virtually all the way he was not at his best, which would probably explain why De Jesus (153½) lasted so long. After taking the first round, care of his powerful left jab, De Jesus found himself in trouble in the second when a short right sent him sprawling, but he was soon back on his feet. Then, after surviving another scare in the third he began to give Jackson (153½) all kinds of problems with his elusiveness. By the fifth Jackson was starting to look ponderous as he plodded after De Jesus, but he hurt the latter in the sixth before really getting on top in the seventh. With both eyes now swollen, although De Jesus came out for the eighth and continued to make things awkward for Jackson, a clubbing right to the head eventually sent him crashing down to be counted out on the 2.19 mark.
