1989-06-24 Jeff Harding w rsc 12 Dennis Andries, Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBC. Referee: Joe Cortez. Despite taking a beating for much of the time, having been dropped in the fifth, cut over both eyes and carrying a badly damaged nose, it was almost miraculous that Harding (174½) reached the 12th round. Harding had been a replacement for Donny Lalonde, who decided to retire a month earlier, and at times he must have wondered whether it had been a good idea to take the Canadian’s place. However, by the eighth Andries (175) was beginning to show signs of weariness, but although managing to keep things together he suddenly ran out of gas in the 11th. Even though Harding picked up a badly cut right eye Andries was a spent force in the 12th, being floored twice before the referee rescued him just 97 seconds from the final bell.
