1990-07-21 Gianfranco Rosi w pts 12 Darrin Van Horn, Ghiacchio Sports Palace, Marino, Italy - IBF. Referee: Randy Neumann. Scorecards: 116-113, 115-110, 115-110. Using every trick in the trade to disrupt the challenger’s rhythm, Rosi (153½) mauled and brawled his way to a unanimous points victory without ever having to raise his game. With heads coming dangerously close on occasion Rosi was cut on the right eye as early as the opening round, and in the fifth it was Van Horn’s turn to be injured in the same place. Rosi also had a point taken away for going low in the fifth. Although Van Horn (154) got lucky in the seventh when the referee ruled that Rosi had been knocked down when it looked like a clear push, he was unable to build on it, continuing to be outwitted as he walked forward in straight lines. A difficult contest to score, according to Rosi he was not only fighting Van Horn, who he claimed butted him throughout, but the referee as well.
