1994-01-22 Eamonn Loughran w pts 12 Alessandro Duran, King’s Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland - WBO. Referee: Ron Lipton. Scorecards: 117-111, 117-112, 117-112. Although the champion won widely on points he was extremely unimpressive against the crafty, awkward Duran (144¼). Right from the start Duran gave Loughran all the trouble he could handle, often catching him napping with sneak rights to the head. Although stretched, Loughran (145¾) continued to pile forward, throwing left hooks, but Duran, badly cut over the right eye in the 12th, proved to be a durable character who only gave ground when it suited him. As in previous contests Loughran again got away with low blows, but may not have been so fortunate had the contest taken place in another country.

On 13 August, Manning Galloway stopped Anthony Jones inside six rounds at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum, Bayamon, Puerto Rico to win the vacant WBO ‘interim’ title, a victory that would see him become Loughran’s next challenger.
