1995-04-22 Danny Romero w pts 12 Francisco Tejedor, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Richards Steele. Scorecards: 116-112, 115-112, 116-111. Romero (112) became the first American since Frankie Genaro to hold a version of the world title when beating Tejedor (111), in what appeared to ringsiders to be much closer than the judges’ scores. Boxing skilfully, the champion took the initiative early on but was pegged back when the fight slowed and Romero started to land. However, it was only in the 11th that Romero was able to assert himself, the very last punch of the fight decking Tejedor, who scrambled up at ‘eight’ to last the distance.
