1995-06-24 Alfred Cole w pts 12 Uriah Grant, Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF. Referee: Steve Smoger. Scorecards: 118-110, 117-111, 117-111. With this being Grant’s second crack at Cole (190) for the latter’s title, once again the result went against him. Both men landed well at times, but Cole was the most hurtful, a powerful left hook almost felling Grant (188) in the eighth. Although Grant boxed in clever fashion, rarely wasting his shots and slipping punches well, Cole’s left jab was the match winner, and even though the champion was cut over the right eye by a clash of heads in the tenth he remained calm to win going away.

Unable to make the weight any longer, when Cole relinquished the IBF version of the title in July 1996, Adolpho Washington was matched against Torsten May to decide the vacancy.
