1999-07-24 Terron Millett w rsc 12 Virgil McClendon, Flamingo Hilton, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Richard Steele. Although slow out of the blocks Millett (139) withstood his southpaw challenger’s early blitz, being well and truly in the groove by the sixth. The awkward McClendon (139½) had certainly given Millett a shaking up, especially in the second, but he was now beginning to ship more and more punishment. Hurt at the end of the 11th McClendon was under fire immediately in the 12th, and after taking a welter of blows to head and body without return the referee called it off with 1.50 on the clock.

Having suffered a long-term injury to his hands, when Millett forfeited the IBF version of the championship in December he was told that when fully fit he would become a preferential challenger to whoever held the title. Following that, Zab Judah and Jan Piet Bergman were matched for the vacant title.
