21 February (108lbs) Jim Kenrick w pts 20 Charlie Exall, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Billy Bell. In a return contest billed for the English 108lbs title, Kenrick (110) came in two pounds over the weight, thus allowing Exall (106) to hold on to his claim. Regardless of that, Kenrick made sure of the verdict this time when taking the fight to Exall from the fourth round onwards with powerful work from both hands. Nevertheless, Exall stuck to the task in hand, showing great gameness and the ability to land solidly with the left even though he was up against it, and held on to the final bell.
Despite being over the weight, in the 1 April issue of the Sporting Life Kenrick was still claiming to be the champion of the 108lbs weight class and was challenging America’s Jimmy Walsh for the world title. By that time he had been joined by Jack Guyon, Ike Bradley and Digger Stanley as English title claimants at the weight.
