25 June (108lbs) Johnny Hughes w pts 20 Tibby Watson, New Adelphi Club, The Strand, London, England. Referee: Harry Cooper. Billed for the world and Imperial British Empire 108lb titles, both fighters were inside the weight and both made a positive start. Right from the off Hughes was looking to work the body as Watson rushed in, and he was the one landing the better punches in the first half of the fight. Watson was never completely out of it, fighting himself to a standstill, and although pegging back some of the earlier points in Hughes’ favour he was ultimately unable make up the deficit.

Two more men looking to get into the shake-up at 108lbs were Charlie Smirke and Charlie Exall, who challenged the world on 26 July and 30 August, respectively.
