1873-04-21 (154lbs) [[Charley Davis]] w rtd 25 (finish) [[Ted Napper]], Grafton Street Hall, Soho, London, England. Made at 154lbs and thought to involve the English 148lbs title as well, Davis (147) was ultimately just too strong for his older opponent. Napper (140), who dropped Davis for a short count in the 23rd, led off for much of the time, but in some sessions there was very little activity as the men paced themselves. No doubt Davis was biding his time and in the 24th he had Napper down before the latter was forced to quit in the 25th. Davis was presented with the 154lbs Bow Cup on 28 April as a mark of recognition as being the English champion at the weight.
