1880-05-24 (136lbs) Charlie Norton w rtd 8 (finish) Fred Heath, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. In a match that took place in a theatre between Englishmen on American soil for the lightweight championship of America, Norton (134) beat Heath (135) in 24 minutes using hard gloves under MoQ Rules. It was stated to be only the third fight of Norton’s career, having won, lost and drawn, and his debut in the USA.

Just under a month later, on 19 June, Bells Life reported that John Boylan was challenging all England at the weight.

In May 1881 Norton challenged George Fulljames to a title match at 136lbs, but was rebuffed by the man who would eventually take on Nonpareil Jack Dempsey.

Two months later, on 23 July 1881, Pat Perry challenged the world at 136lbs, while Anthony Diamond eventually challenged all England at that weight on 23 May 1885.
