1887-01-11 (108lbs) [[Harry Barnes]] w pts 10 [[Steve Corbett]], Paradise Street School of Arms, Lambeth, London, England. Made at 108lbs, Barnes (106), who had earlier been claiming the English titles at 104 and 106lbs, was clear on points prior to the sixth round due to his accurate straight left that found Corbett (108) time and again. Although Barnes slipped down in the seventh he was soon back in control and boxed his way to an easy win. Regardless of Barnes’ title claims this seems to be his professional debut and while carrying on he does not appear to have to have got down to 108lbs again after beating Corbett.
