1887-04-25 (128lbs) Jack Hopper w co 25 (finish) Mike Cushing, Eureka Spring, New York, USA. Referee: Frank Stevenson. Although billed for the 126lbs championship of America it was really the 128lbs title that was at stake. Contested in skin-tight gloves, Cushing (127) broke his right wrist in the 18th round before Hopper (128), taking advantage, knocked him out with a blow to the head in the 25th.

Hopper never defended his title claim.
