1887-05-30 (112lbs) Nunc Wallace w co 5 (12) Sam Tongue, Birmingham, England. Referee: Bill Brown. Meeting in a quiet suburb, the winner would advertise himself as the English 112lbs champion. Following a very fast and interesting four rounds, Wallace knocked out his fellow ‘Brummie’ with a hard right to the pit of the stomach.

Some five months later, on 3 December, Charlie Smith won Jem Mace’s English championship competition at the weight when outpointing Charlie Sinclair over three rounds at the Waites’ School of Arms, Piccadilly, London.
