1887-06-16 (128lbs) Sam Blakelock w pts 12 Reuben Baxter, Paradise Street School of Arms, Lambeth, London, England. Referee: E. Sampson. Made at 128lbs, with the contest setting off at a very fast pace as early as the sixth round it was generally felt that it could not continue at such a rate. However, it did, Blakelock, who proved to be the stronger of the two, earning the verdict after putting more work in over the last few sessions than did Baxter.

Although no championship billing was given, Blakelock claimed the English title at the weight on the result.

The 128lbs class then lapsed until September 1883 when Young Jacob Hyams challenged all England at the weight.
