1887-07-21 (144lbs) Arthur Bobbett w pts 12 Jim Kendrick, Paradise Street School of Arms, Lambeth, London, England. Referee: H. Woodstock. Made at 144lbs, it was clear that Kendrick (143) was not the same fighter prior to his recent illness, but he still managed stiff resistance as Bobbett forced the fight from the opening bell, scoring to head and body with lefts and rights. There were no out-and-out knockdowns, just a few slips and Bobbett impressed as a fighter who with some tuition could turn out to be a tough customer for any of the top men. There was no title billing as such but Bobbett, who was reported to weigh 140, 143 and 148lbs depending what paper you read, claimed the English 144lbs title following his win over Kendrick.
