1887-08-22 (128lbs) Sam Blakelock w pts 12 Reuben Baxter, Paradise Street School of Arms, Lambeth, London, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Although there was no championship billing as such, eventual paper gossip considered it to have been a defence of the 128lbs English title that Blakelock had claimed after his win over Baxter in June. The Sporting Life report stated that most of the rounds were magnificently fought and Baxter, who had been ill immediately prior to the bout, did wonderfully well despite his lack of condition. As in their previous contest Blakelock just about deserved the decision due to his better work, but after going to America to make a fight with Ike Weir he returned in October to find little opposition at the weight.
