1887-12-15 (152lbs) Ted Burchill w co 12 (finish) Arthur Bobbett, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Although no title billing was attached, years later Burchill (152) claimed he had won the English 152lbs title when beating Bobbett somewhere in the west end of London. The contest started with Bobbett using the left hand well as a scoring punch, but by the seventh round things were evening up with Burchill, concentrating on landing heavy blows from both hands, appearing to be the stronger. Down in the ninth, Bobbett was clearly weakening and in the 12th he was driven around the ring by heavy lefts and rights to the jaw before falling. After getting to his feet Bobbett was soon put down again and although scrambling up and being treated leniently by Burchill, moments later it became apparent that he had already been counted out. A championship competition at the weight in 1888 was won by Jim Kendrick who outpointed Bill Corcoran over four rounds on 14 April at the Royal Agricultural Hall, Islington, London.
