1888-03-01 (124lbs) Jack Havelin w co 7 (finish) Jack Farrell, Jersey City, New Jersey, USA. Referee: Jerry Dunn. Said to have taken place not far from the city in skin-tight gloves, with other reports naming NYC as the venue, Havelin (122½) successfully defended his 124lbs title claim against Farrell (123) in front of around 150 sportsmen. The first four rounds were in favour of Farrell, but in the fifth he was battered non-stop through to the seventh before being counted out, having been dropped four times.
