1888-11-26 (106lbs) Goody Jacobs w pts 12 Fred Sullivan, Paradise Street School of Arms, Lambeth, London, England. Billed for the English 106lbs title, it was initially intended to be a finish bout before 12 rounds were agreed on. The opening two sessions saw Jacobs twice on the floor before he came back spiritedly to outbox the tiring Sullivan, being the straighter hitter and much fitter. Although the two-fisted Sullivan came again, there was no doubting Jacobs’ victory as he kept his boxing going right to the final gasp.
