Contested in skin-tight gloves, for four rounds no damage was done, but from the fifth through to the 17th the fighting was of the sharpest order according to the ''New York Sun''. Unfortunately, from thereon there was much fouling before the fight came to a finish in the 21st session. Having rushed Glassey (102) into a corner Donovan (105) sent him to the floor to be counted out after landing a swinging right hand to the throat. It had lasted one hour, 22 minutes.
