1889-05-21 (105lbs) Chappie Moran w rtd 14 (finish) Frank Donovan, Staten Island, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Pete Donohoe. Due to strict measures taken at the time to ensure the secrecy of the venue, all we know is that it was held near Tottenville. Contested in skin-tight gloves and billed for the world 105lbs title, it had no real standing in Britain as Moran (105) was not recognised by those who mattered as being the English champion at the weight. The finish came when Donovan (104½), sporting a badly damaged right eye, was knocked down twice in the 14th round before being retired by his corner.
