Line 1: Line 1:
1889-06-06 (148lbs) Ted Pritchard w co 2 (finish) Alec Burns, Paradise Street School of Arms, Lambeth, London, England. Referee: Bernard J.Angle. Billed for the English 148lbs middleweight title, the fight started at a fair pace and immediately prior the end of the opening round Burns (147) was dropped in his own corner. It was obvious that Burns had not shaken off the effects of his knockdown and he was quickly in trouble in the second as Pritchard (146) set about him with both hands. After being smashed down for the second time, Burns got up and tried to fight back but was beaten down again and counted out on the 1.30 mark. Burns’ corner tried to claim a foul on the grounds that each time their man went down he was being punched when on his haunches, but were overruled.
