1889-07-30 (120lbs) Frank Murphy drew 27 (finish) Torpedo Billy Murphy, California AC, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Hiram Cook. This was a fight made at 120lbs for the world title in regulation gloves that was eventually stopped when the referee announced that it was clear to him that neither Frank Murphy (119½) or Billy Murphy (119½) were fit enough to continue. The main action took place between the 12th and 16th rounds when the men fought themselves to a standstill, but following that it was decidedly slower. A draw was conceded after the Torpedo, having a fractured left arm, and Frank Murphy, being totally unfit, were both unable to carry on.
