1889-11-2 (100lbs) Bill Bolton w co 16 (finish) Jack Tyson, Social Club, Kennington, London, England. With both men inside 100lbs, this fight was looked upon as being for the English title at the weight, especially as they had repeatedly challenged Tom De Groat to no avail. After some hard fighting, Bolton began to get on top and put the tiring Tyson down twice in the 14th round and four times in the 16th before a tremendous right-left saw the latter counted out. It was a great win for Bolton, but he soon moved on.
We next hear of the English 100lbs title when the Mirror of Life reported on 22 December that Jem Stevens had beaten De Groat inside five rounds of a finish fight held in London, England earlier in the month. However, as yet we have been unable to trace this contest.
