Line 1: Line 1:
23 December (94lbs) [[Alf Gunning]] w co 11 (finish) [[Enos Gamble]] at the [[School of Arms, Chelsea]], London, England. Referee: [[Mr George]]. Both men started like tigers, neither giving an inch, but by the sixth the better quality of Gunning’s work had put him in the lead. The next five sessions saw Gamble beginning to weaken from constant body attacks and in the tenth with the finish in sight he was chased all over the ring before managing to make it to the end of the round. Finally, in the 11th, Gamble had nothing left and after taking several terrific clouts to the head he was knocked out by a heavy right to the jaw. Although no weights were given Gunning was thought to have successfully defended his 94lbs English title claim, but quickly outgrew the weight class.
