1890-01-07 (120lbs) Tommy Barnes w disq 8 (finish) Scotty Cox, Williamsville, Buffalo, New York, USA. Held in a barn and made at 120lbs, with two-ounce gloves in use, Barnes (118) claimed the title on his victory. Barnes, who’d had the best of the fight after drawing first blood in the second round, won when Cox (119) was disqualified for hitting on the break, having been winded and groggy previously. Years later it was stated that Barnes had lost his claim to Ike Weir, but no record of that fight ever taking place has been uncovered.
