1890-01-13 (120lbs) Torpedo Billy Murphy w co 14 (finish) Ike Weir, California AC, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Hiram Cook. Billed for the world 120lbs title, both men landed solidly in the opening eight rounds before little fighting was done in the next three sessions. In the 12th, Weir (124½) was suddenly under real pressure as Murphy (120), cut over the left eye, chased him down. But it was not until the 13th that the real damage was done, the Irishman going down eight times in rapid succession before being counted out in the 14th. Prior to the contest, Murphy had already claimed the 120lbs title by forfeit as Weir had failed miserably to make the agreed weight.
