1890-02-07 (158lbs) Toff Wall w pts 12 Bill Chesterfield Goode, Pelican Club, Soho, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the English 158lbs championship and involving Goode’s Imperial British Empire title claim, Wall (157) was on top almost all the way, often staggering his rival with well-placed punches and generally in control. In the ninth a tiring Wall slipped over and was cut over the left eye but he still had the better of Goode (156), who was much the worse for wear and almost all in. Described by many as the most scientific boxer in England, in fact this was the final bout of Wall’s career, other than him participating in the odd exhibition and continuing to sign himself as champion for quite a while afterwards. On 10 January 1891 Arthur Akers outpointed Alf Suffolk over three rounds at Rowland’s Carr Lane Circus, Hull on 10 January 1891 to win a 158lbs championship competition.
