11 March (114lbs) Jimmy Kennard w rsc 22 (finish) Johnny Lyman, Arlington AC, Barney Fossett’s Roadhouse, Buffalo, New York, USA. Referee: Dai Lewis. Billed for the American 114lbs title, and contested in two-ounce gloves, the first five rounds were fought at a blistering pace while the next five were much slower as both men spent time recuperating from their early endeavours. The 11th session opened with Kennard (112¾) rushing in with hefty swings while Lyman (113¾) went for uppercuts and jabs, and there was much hard hitting right through to the end of the 18th, with the latter getting the worse of it. Despite Lyman being under pressure at the time, it was he who recorded the first knockdown when dropping his rival with a right to the jaw in the 21st. However, Kennard was not done for and he came racing back to drop Lyman twice in the 22nd with solid blows to the jaw, the second occasion seeing his rival counted out.
