1890-04-07 (122lbs) [[Fred Johnson]] w pts 20 [[Bill Baxter]], Pelican Club, Soho, London, England. Very even up until the 12th round, Baxter (122), making his return to the ring, caught Johnson with a blow to the chin and after the latter had initially clung on to his rival he eventually fell to the floor. Somehow Johnson (120) got up and managed to keep out of trouble for the remainder of the 12th before going on to have the better of the next four sessions, with his left jab at the forefront of everything he did. In the 17th Baxter again had Johnson over from a right to the jaw, but was unable to finish his rival off and spent the remaining three sessions trying for a kayo without success. Although Baxter looked to have won a contest that was recognised as an English 122lbs title match, the two judges disagreed with each other and it was left to the referee to award Johnson the decision.
