9 April (108lbs) Charlie Mansford w co 13 (finish) Harry Saphir, Goodwin Club, Shoreditch, London, England. Referee: Ted Gobby. Billed for the English 108lbs title, after both men made a reasonable start Saphir was down twice in the fourth round, and again in the eighth before being dropped three times in both the 11th and 12th. This was now becoming one-sided as Saphir appeared to have no defence against Mansford’s extra power and after being floored in the 13th he was knocked out immediately on getting up. This was Mansford’s third win in succession over Saphir.
Following the fight the winner was challenged by Goody Jacobs, while towards the end of the month Billy Holmes was claiming to be the rightful champion at the weight. Despite continuing to challenge all England at 108lbs, by the middle of the year Mansford was boxing at 112lbs.
