1890-08-11 (107/108lbs) Billy Plimmer w co 13 (20) Arthur Westley, Ormonde Club, Walworth, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the English 107lbs title, Westley (106), an ex amateur star, did well early on, giving Plimmer (105) a bloody nose in the third round before starting to tire in the seventh. It became even more difficult for Westley when his left eye began to close in the ninth, and in the 13th after being put down by a right to the jaw he got to his feet only to be knocked out by a similar blow.
In September 1890 Chappie Moran challenged all England, Ponk Andrews preferred, and was followed by Harry Barnes in December 1890, prior to Jem Stevens being called the 106lbs to 108lbs champion in the Sporting Life on 17 January 1891.
Sid Phillips joined the list of English title claimants at 107lbs when he outpointed Ted Gamble over four rounds to win a championship competition at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Westminster, London on 4 April 1891.
