25 August (101lbs) Alf Sparrow w co 15 (finish) Alf Winters, Paradise Street School of Arms, Lambeth, London, England. Referee: George Dunning. Very even right up to the 15th round, despite Winters being floored by a body punch in the tenth, the fight ended in a count out after Sparrow had driven home another powerful blow under the ribs. Sparrow, who had worked the body all night, had finally made it count. Billed for the English 101lbs title, The Sportsman stated that neither Sparrow nor Winters were up to championship standard and other claimants came forward in September in the shape of Ted Gamble and Jack Hart.
