1890-09-05 (118lbs) Arthur Wilkinson w co 7 (30) Arthur Soles, Social Club, Kennington, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Advertised as a contest to decide the English 118lbs title, Soles (117¾) immediately began to force matters, with Wilkinson (118) defending well and countering accurately from both hands. As the bout went on Wilkinson seemed to be the stronger, sending in heavy blows to both head and body, and after setting Soles up in the seventh he knocked his man out with a right to the jaw.
