1890-10-16 (134lbs) Jim Verrall w co 6 (15) Alf Suffolk, Paradise Street School of Arms, Lambeth, London, England. Referee: Tom Tully. Made at 134lbs, and contested in four-ounce gloves, Verrall (133) started the better of the pair but Suffolk (134) came back well to put it on a level footing by the end of the fifth, finishing strongly when hammering in a heavy blow to the jaw immediately prior to the bell. Sensing he could finish it Suffolk came out for the sixth in a positive mood before two rights to the mark sent him back a pace or two and put him at the mercy of Verrall, who finished the job with a one-two to the head followed by a right swing.
