1890-12-15 (110lbs) Jimmy Kennard w co 13 (finish) Billy Murray, Stamford, Connecticut, USA
15 December (110lbs) Jimmy Kennard w co 13 (finish) Billy Murray, Stamford, Connecticut, USA. Referee: Frank Stevenson. Also reported to have taken place on Rockaway Beach, NYC, New York, it was contested in skin-tight gloves to decide the American 110lbs title. With Kennard the aggressor and Murray defending well nothing much happened until the latter was badly hurt in the 12th round. It came as no surprise when Murray was knocked out by a cracking blow to the jaw before the 13th was over. The New York World reported that Kennard would have to face either Tommy Spider Kelly or Martin Flaherty, who beat him at 110lbs early in 1891 according to unsupported reports, if he wanted to stamp his authority on the weight class.
