1891-01-26 (134lbs) Jim Verrall w co 18 (20) Sam Blakelock, Ormonde Club, Walworth London, England. Referee: J.T.Hulls. Although not reported as such, this fight was considered to be for the English 134lbs title, but due to its brutality it effectively finished both men. It was blow for blow for most of the rounds contested but by the 14th Verrall was beginning to get on top and during that session he had Blakelock flat on his back from a solid straight left. The next three rounds saw the men piling in, but in the 18th Verrall finally put paid to Blakelock when twice hammering him to the floor where he was counted out on the second occasion.
